I was never successful in doing any training on the second week, so don't be surprised if you are so busy packing and preparing that your workouts go by the wayside. Heck, conserve energy, you are going to need it!
My favorite "walk" the last week was when my training group would get together in the parking lot of Fuddruckers or Pat & Oscars and "walk" into the restaurant together. Good times, good memories. Makes me excited to think of training with a group again next year. I missed my boob crew!
This is it! All of the training and fundraising has gotten you to this time, to this week. You are going to experience a lifetime of excitement, emotion, tears, joy and laughter this weekend. Good luck and God bless!

Thoughts on Three Day #2
Kim J., who walked with Laura and I last year, made it to Souplantation the night before the 3 day. It was great to re-connect with her, as I hadn't actually seen her since last year's 3 day! She is planning to walk the 3 day again in 2010 and asked that I share with her, once 2009's 3 day was over, what my insights were on doing walk it again.
Honestly, I think it was better the second time!
The first walk was absolutely fantastic but it wasn't in anyway anti-climatic to do it again. In some ways, it was easier as I knew what to expect...it was nice to simply know the route for one! But while the "high" of the second walk wasn't quite as high as the first, it just went deeper. It was so meaningful to experience 2009 with the Boob Crew. I loved sharing all of the training and then the actual walk with them. Coming across the finish line and then cheering each other on was one of the highlights of the entire experience.
Not all of the same things that made 2009 so special didn't happen in the same way. I didn't see all of my favorite cheerleaders as often. The cops weren't quite as fun as they were last year. And the constant lines at the portapots on Day 1 were beyond frustrating. But there were so many more cheerleaders out there, it was INCREDIBLE! Their energy was so contagious and they were so much fun. Their signs, their costumes, their dogs, their coffee and snacks...and I have to mention, their beer and tequila shots. There didn't seem to be as many 3 day walkers out there on the course, but they all seem to have shown up on the sidelines.
In all honesty, I can't wait to do it again, again! 2010 here I come!

Still Walking!

It's been over three months since I've blogged on this site and boy, has life been crazy! My biggest obstacle in keeping up on things was an unexpected hand surgery I needed back in March. For months I'd had a very small bump on my hand and all of a sudden one Saturday morning, it started swelling and became very red. I went into the urgent care clinic on Monday after work and was referred to an orthopedic hand surgeon, who fit me in for a Wednesday morning appointment. He in turn felt that it would require surgery, as it was getting bigger even as I was on antibiotics, and would most likely get worse before it got better. He made room for me in his surgery schedule for the VERY NEXT DAY! And five days after it started swelling and showing signs of infection, I was wheeled into the operating room and put under general anesthesia.
When the doctor opened up the abscess, all he found was...pus. He was expecting to find a splinter or some kind of foreign matter. He had the pathologist run extra blood tests, but all came back "normal." There wasn't any explanation for what caused the infection...until a few weeks later when two small plant horns worked their way out of the healing, 3/4" incision. Talk about STRANGE! He had warned me that he may have missed something after the surgery. And the thorns had most likely worked themselves down fairly deep. He and I were both relieved to finally find out what caused the problem in the first place.
The surgeon did a fabulous job. I still have some scar tissue at the incision site which means don't have 100% range of motion back but I'm happy with all that he did. My training took a back seat for several weeks but I'm still pretty comfortable with a six mile walk.
I'll catch you up on a few more things that have been happening as I now actively train for the 2009 Susan G. Komen Three Day. Stay tuned for more blogs to come in the next few days!
